The Blue Trucks are our own unique logistics and delivery system, giving us complete control over our distribution while providing our customers with efficient deliveries that leave a smaller climate footprint.
In fact, the Blue Truck concept is so efficient that we manage with two trucks where others would need three. This is the result of a methodology we’ve been perfecting since 1959.
lower CO2 emissions per product compared to conventional transport.
of single-use packaging avoided per container.
reduction in carbon emissions per tonne-kilometre since 2019.
fossil-free fuel used at our filling station in Kinnarp.
from order to fully installed interior design solution.
Over a hundred people work in logistics at Kinnarps. As soon as an order is received, work begins to plan production and delivery so that the interior solution is delivered and installed on time. Even during furniture production, it’s already determined when it will be delivered, by which truck, and where in the truck it will be placed.
Our loading staff ensures that furniture is loaded into the truck in the order it will be unloaded at the customer’s site. The furniture is mainly packed using reusable blankets and cardboard sheets, avoiding 270 kg of single-use packaging per container. The vehicles are custom-built with higher internal loading heights, allowing more furniture to fit compared to standard trucks.
Once everything is loaded and ready, our delivery staff take over. They are both professional drivers and experienced assemblers, enabling us to deliver and install the interior solution in a single visit. Combined with our efficient packing method, this means we can install the solution in half the time compared to our competitors, causing minimal disruption to operations.
We all need air to breathe, but for the sake of the climate, it doesn’t belong in our containers. Instead, on the return journey, we fill the trucks with materials from our suppliers, making use of transport capacity in both directions and further reducing our climate impact.
- Johan Bjerke, Supply Chain Manager, Kinnarps
We are constantly working to improve the efficiency of our delivery and logistics system. In recent years, we’ve participated in several research projects, including HCT (High Capacity Transport) and, most recently, Vinnova’s project DHEELS (Demonstrating Highly Efficient Logistics Solutions). As part of DHEELS, we are allowed to operate our trucks with two trailers instead of one, which has reduced the number of transports between our factories.
Imagine a giant version of the Tetris game: tabletops, chairs, sofas, and storage units of various shapes and sizes must all fit into a truck – and in the correct order for smooth deliveries.
This is exactly the kind of challenge Kinnarps’ logistics team solves daily!
